Hello All-
The other day I was dropping an album onto my iTunes. I was sitting there when I heard the first song go from CD to MP3 and there was a noticeable drop in volume and sound quality. The drums went from sounding fat and round to sounding like ?a big cup of DW!? To fix this problem I went into the iTunes equalizer function and messed around until I got a sound that I felt brought out a good sound. But then it occurred to me: I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO USE THIS THING! I tried a few different songs? out of 3800!
Anyway, my question is if there is any general EQ rules that can help me in my dilemna? The pre-amp is set at 0db. It is 32 to 16k. What in the heck does that mean!? I know that 16k is the extreme high end and that 32 is the extreme low. I am encouraged by the few EQ?s that I have adjusted, but wondered if someone can help out the learning curve.
Thanks Everyone. F.S.

You shouldn't hear that much of a difference if you go from cd to .acs (I think that is the type of ion used by Apple. If you go from cd to .mp3 to iTunes, you will hear a difference. In iTunes when you put a cd into your library, I think it uses the Apple compression rate (which is better than .mp3). Sorry, I can't remember what the actual rate is called.

The forum keeps leaving out stuff that I type, like the first time I tried to type c-o-m-p-r-e-s-s-i-o-n. Grrrrrrr!!!! It only comes out as ion.

INFO
Look at the Parametric EQ picture. Its the common audible frequency spectrum.
Its how high and low the player outputs the audio.
The common human cant really hear much above 16k Some have been know to hear upwards of 50k I think.
